It is believed to be loosely based on the lives of real-life gangsters Haji Mastan and Dawood Ibrahim. Emraan plays the role of Dawood and was critically acclaimed for his brilliant performance.

Vivek Oberoi plays the role of “Maya” Dolas. The Character is portrayed as real life underworld Gangster Maya Dolas. Vivek was always known for his work as a gangster since company, but with Shootout, he proved his mettle as an actor.
